Education

التعليم في كندا

When you study in Canada, you will earn an academic qualification that is recognized and respected around the world. Studying in Canada can provide a fast track to immigration.

TOP 10 reasons to study in Canada:

1.     The United Nations ranked Canada as the best place in the world to live

It’s no secret – People in Canada enjoy a quality of life that is recognized worldwide.  From safe neighbourhoods in some of North America’s most cosmopolitan cities to top-notch health care and public transportation, excellence permeates every aspect of Canadian life – including a world class higher education system.  Canada earned high marks for its access to education, high life expectancy, and low crime rates.

2.     Canada’s education system is excellent and ranks among the best in the world.

3.     Internationally recognized degrees.  Canada boasts a wide range of quality educational institutions for both degrees and diplomas in technical and professional disciplines.  More than 130,000 students come to study in Canada every year.

4.     Possibility to work in Canada after graduation.  International students who have graduated from a Canadian University or college have the opportunity to work in Canada for up to two years after they receive their degree or diploma.

5.     A safe, stable country.  Canada is a peaceful, politically stable, and safe country.  There are laws that protect the rights of the citizens and the country is relatively unaffected by natural disasters.

6.     Excellent health care: Compared to other countries, medical insurance is inexpensive in Canada yet the services that Canadian hospitals provide are among some of the most advanced and accessible in the world.

7.     Learn or improve another language: For over century, Canada’s two official languages (English and French) have been taught as second languages.  International students often choose to take language courses before beginning a regular academic program.

8.     A multicultural country: Over the past century, Canada has welcomed 15 million immigrants.  Every year, some 200,000 new immigrants arrive here making Canada the nation that receives the most newcomers annually based on its population, which recently exceeded 33 million.  Canada has a national policy for multiculturalism and works to ensure that people’s customs and traditions are preserved and respected.

9.     Nature and four distinct seasons:  The temperature varies a great deal in Canada.  Certain cities almost never have snow in the winter while other cities may get a lot.  There’s something for everyone, including indoor and outdoor recreational activities at no or low cost.  The four distinct seasons offer variety and their own special pleasures.

10.                        Canada is waiting for you:  Canadians can be reserved with newcomers but are generally very welcoming and respectful of differences.  Canada will be something that you will never forget!  What are you waiting for?

CANADIAN EDUCATION SYSTEM

In Canada, education is regulated by each separate provincial government through the individual ministries of education.  They are:

  Ø Public/Private Elementary & Secondary Schools

  Ø Post-Secondary Institutions

  Ø Universities

  Ø Undergraduate Studies

  Ø Graduate/Master Programs

Living in Canada during your studies

  Ø Climate:

Canada has four very distinct seasons, particularly in the more populated regions along the US border.  Daytime summer temperatures can rise to 35 degrees C while lows of -15 degree C are not uncommon in winter.  Canadians have adapted extremely well to the colder periods of weather by installing heat in housing and cars, by having heated public transportation systems, and in some instances, in walkways to and from buildings in schools.

  Ø Culture:

Many people in Canada maintain that Canada doesn’t really have a culture at all, but borrows heavily from French, British and American culture to create our own sense of identity.  One common word used to describe Canadian culture is multiculturalism.  We are willing to take in any culture and make it part of our own.  We are a country of immigrants and that is our culture.  In Canada, just about every language in the world is spoken.

  Ø Safe place to study:

Canada is a safe place to live and study.  The crime rates are very low and people are able to travel freely about the country without concern.  Our police are friendly and professional and have outstanding relationships with the communities they serve.  Canada is at peace with all its neighbours.

Working in Canada as an International Student

You must come to Canada with enough money to live and pay your bills while you are studying without needing to work.  In certain situations, you may be able to work while you are studying. Working will help you earn extra money and gain Canadian work experience.  Do not work without being authorized to do so.  If you do, you may be asked to leave Canada.  You will need a Social Insurance Number to work in Canada.

On Campus Employment:

You may work on campus at the institution where you study without a work permit if:

            ·        you are a full-time student

            ·        you have a valid study permit

Off Campus Employment:

·        To work off-campus, you can apply for a work permit if you are on a full-time program and after having completed six months of full-time studies. The Work Permit authorizes up to 20 hours per week during regular academic sessions, and full time during scheduled breaks (e.g., winter or summer holidays and reading week).

Co-op and Internship:

For some academic programs, work experience is part of the curriculum. Foreign students who wish to participate in a co-op or internship program must apply for a work permit as well as a study permit.  To be eligible for a work permit, you must meet the following conditions:

·        You must have a valid study permit.

·        Your intended employment must be an essential part of your program of study in Canada.

·        Your employment must be part of your academic program, certified by a letter from a responsible academic official of the institution.

·        Your co-op or internship employment cannot form more than 50 percent of the total program of study

Spousal Employment:

·        Work permits for your spouse or common-law partner are valid for the same period of time as your study or work permit.

·        Accompanying spouses or common-law partners of foreign students are eligible for an open work permit, which means they do not need a job offer or a labour market opinion from Service Canada.

Post-Graduate Employment:

·        The Post-Graduate Work Permit allows graduating students to work in Canada for up to 3 years after graduation (conditions apply).
